Runabout Reflections/Public Relations/Everything else
Machines, whether on land, sea or air, have been my passion
ever since I can remember. My quest for speed and adventure
was inspired by people such as race driver Phil Hill, sailor
Malcolm Campbell and flyer Charles Lindbergh, my heroes. My
early dreams lead to my experiments in all these fields and
my career as a mechanical engineer. On
my sixteenth birthday, the day I got my driver's license,
I was set free to roam the world on my own. At least that's
what my mind set told me. I set the goal of driving every
back road in California, setting foot on every continent and
sailing around Cape Horn. I'm still working on some of these,
but I'm having a ball in the process.
My entrepreneurial career has spanned over
40 years and has been a trip along some of these same paths.
But my avocational interests have certainly been the highlights
of my life. I was given my first boat at age six, an eight
foot row boat. I learned to drive a car at nine and built
my first race car in 1957. In 1960 I bought an airplane and
got my private pilot's license three months later. Flying
has been a passion of mine ever since.
Just over a year ago, when I met Will Whiteside,
my flying adventures were at a low point due to business and
other time consuming activities. This past year has been a
rush to the ultimate of my flying dreams. Being involved with
Will and a team of people who I am inspired by and who carry
me on to even higher highs with flying, has been a joy for
me. My involvement with Team Steadfast is a commitment to
do the best I can to help and support this team, while cherishing
the camaraderie of some of the best people whom I have ever
know.
