Steadfast
At Reno 2008!
At Reno 2008, Team SteadFast gained a considerable
speed advantage on the field of Unlimited Race
Planes. Qualifying at 388 MPH, and with race speeds
15 MPH faster than last year, we felt the winter
modification program was very worthwhile. In Sundays Gold Trophy Race, SteadFast Finished 3rd in Unlimited Silver. During
qualifying, we found an induction leak in the
carburetor air boot. This kept us from obtaining
full power on the course and didn't let the ADI or
water injection work correctly. Once this was
rectified we saw race lap speeds of 394 MPH
consistently. We have isolated areas to address for
2009 to obtain our speed goal of 400+MPH.
Special thanks to Charlie White of Chesapeake Airways
for sponsoring us with the HU-16 Albatross blades we
ran this year and to Wayne Johnson of Aero Union
propeller Services for the build of this prop. Ray
Anderson of Anderson Aeromotive sponsored the 1830
reduction nosecase that works so well on a R2000
equipped fighter. We found a "must have" combination
for a Yak or T28. Thanks to Jim Cook of Hawleys
Paint, we really enjoyed the new paint scheme and
received lots of nice comments on its design. My
friends, Victor and Mark Trione for your taking care
of the fuel bill and your support on and off the
racecourse. The Frey Family for your Love and support.
Norm and Suzi Stubbs of TBM Inc. for your continued
support in our effort to make this the fastest
little Yak ever at The Reno national Championship
Air Races. Thank you to the SteadFast Crew for their
dedication to seeing this little Yak through it’s
development into a solid runner in the Unlimited
Silver. SteadFast Qualified 11th and won 11th out of
the entire field of Unlimiteds.
For 2008-09 off-season, we plan on developing an
R-2000 and increase its volumetric efficiency.
Hopefully increasing its horsepower at race settings
allowing us to run in the Gold in 2009-2010. We are
also looking for a T28B(FENNEC)propeller for Reno 2009. We are
looking for a sponsor who is interested in helping
with the modification and build of the engine. Cost
will be fairly minimal but still daunting for our budget!
Thank you to everyone who supported our team this
year. We cant do it without you! Look for our newest
addition to our sportswear line in the coming
months. and keep an eye on our
progress through our
forum!
Will also raced a highly modified P51 Mustang called "Voodoo". Will blew up the race engine in practice and with the stock engine, he won the Unlimited Bronze race on Sunday. You can read about this by clicking on the "Voodoo" link to the left.
